Premier League Teams to Watch in 2022/23

This year will be the 31st full season of the Premier League. Whilst the fixture list is not available at the time of writing, we do know the first fixtures will be played on 6th August 2022 and the final round will take place on 28th May 2023. This year the season kicks off earlier and finishes later than usual due to the break to allow for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

That World Cup is something that will certainly make the beginning of the season very interesting as fringe international players from the teams competing in the World Cup will want to prove their form and be selected. Aside from those players’ contributions to the teams, let’s take a dive into the teams that may be worth watching in the Premier League next season, including the current and former champions.

With 30 seasons of the Premier League completed, Manchester united remain the most successful club having won a record 13 titles. Winning the title again recently and for the second successive year, Manchester City has become the second most successful winner of the Premier League with six triumphs. Chelsea have won five times, Arsenal three times and Liverpool, Leicester City and Blackburn have won the title one time apiece. Blackburn are currently playing in the Championship so we will not be taking them into account.

Manchester United

The last time Manchester United won the Premier League was back in the 2012/2013 season and it seems like an age since it happened. The most recent Premier League season has seen United finish in sixth place, missing out on the Champions League but earning qualification to the Europa League.

Clearly this is not acceptable to the Manchester United following and a new manager is taking the hotseat to try and bring back the glory days. Erik ten Hag has taken the reigns of one of the biggest clubs in the world. The former Ajax manager will have to implement his style of football whilst shaking things up.

The transfer window is going to be massively important to Manchester United and it will be intriguing to see the comings and goings at Old Trafford. There is a potential clear-out and the question remains if any of the big names will be packing their bags.

Manchester City

You would think Manchester City would not rock the boat for next season and make minor changes to the squad. However Manchester City have also made the biggest pre-season transfers so far with £51 million for one of his players. One place where you would want to be a striker is at Manchester City, with the team having ended the season as top goal-scorers and scoring the most goals from free kicks.

Chelsea

It’s all about the change of ownership at Chelsea and with that may come an upheaval of the team. Another player potentially rumoured to be leaving... Defensively they will need to pay attention but will also benefit from the return other players at the start of the season. Despite being the Premier League’s third top scoring team, they need to be more clinical bearing in mind the amount of possession they tend to have.

Arsenal

It may have been a slightly disappointing end to the season for Arsenal but they were close to Champions League qualification, finishing fifth in the Premier League. That represents progress, however, they will need to avoid inconsistency and improve their squad mainly in midfield and attack. It is a young squad and a well-balanced transfer window and good pre-season can do wonders for their forthcoming season.

Liverpool

Liverpool often make astute signings and it will be interesting to see how the youngster features in the Premier League 2022/23 season. Liverpool has a superb passing team particularly from defence making 12 key contributions having a near on 91% passing success rate.

Leicester City

Not having to play in Europe may come as an advantage or possible disadvantage for Leicester City next season. On the one hand they can concentrate on the league, while on the other hand they may lose players who wish to play European football.

Newcastle

Finally, a mention to a team that will generate serious interest in the Premier League during the transfer window and when the season starts. Already the new manager has seen existing squad players stepping up their game. n the meantime, expect Newcastle to be linked with every available top-quality footballer already being touted as potential incomings.
