Premier League 2022/23 Betting Guide

The Premier League is the most popular football league in the world and with twenty teams competing, there are plenty of opportunities to place bets. Ahead of the 2022/23 season, we have but together this basic betting guide to ensure that you understand all of the options that will become available to you once the season kicks off.

Premier League Betting Markets

Within the following sections we explain all of the most popular types of Premier League betting markets. As there are so many different markets available for each and every Premier League game, you may find yourself a little bit perplexed by what exactly is on offer. However, after reading through the following explanations, you should be fully equipped to make the most of all the season’s betting opportunities.

Match Bet

When you consider placing a match bet on a Premier League game you will most likely be familiar with what it relates to. Bearing in mind there are only two teams and when placing your wager, you need to decide who you think will win, lose or draw. Sit back and relax for the full 90 minutes and stoppage time to see if you are successful.

Asian Handicap

This is a form of gambling that is uniquely applied to football and can be used for Premier League fixtures. The handicap placed against a team needs to be beaten as there is no place for a draw in the result of the bet. The handicap placed can represent a half goal, for example -0.5 or it can represent a whole goal, for example -3.

Putting this into context, let us imagine a Premier League football match in which Liverpool and Manchester City play. Liverpool is handed a handicap of -2 and Manchester City +3. If Liverpool wins by a margin of 3 goals, then those who have backed them will win the bet. If Manchester City lose the game by a margin of 4 goals or more, then those who have backed them will lose the bet.

Using half-goal handicaps, let us look at another example, this time using Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Tottenham are given a handicap of -0.5 and Chelsea are given a handicap of +2.5. In this case Tottenham Hotspur need to win by a minimum of one goal whereas Chelsea need to lose by no more than 3 goals.

European Handicap

A European Handicap bet follows to a certain extent, the Asian Handicap bet. The difference is that draws are possible and half numbers are not permitted. Here our example teams are Arsenal and Manchester United. Arsenal’s handicap is -1, Draw -1, Chelsea +2. If you bet on Arsenal, you win if they win by at least 2 goals. If you bet on a draw then you win if Arsenal loses by only one goal. Betting on Chelsea will see you win if they win, lose or draw by a solitary goal.

Half-Time and Full-Time Bets

Imagine it’s the start of the season and newly promoted Fulham are travelling to stalwarts of the Premier League, Everton. With Fulham brimming with excitement and wanting to give it their all, followed by a sell out away end, it could Everton 0 – 1 Fulham at half-time. However, the wily experienced Toffees remember last season’s relegation scrap and turn the game round in the second half for a final score-line of Everton 2 – 1 Fulham. The example above indicates you can make a bet on the half-time score-line or the full-time score-line.

Double Chance

When making a double chance bet you are increasing your chances of winning by covering a combination of possibilities within the wager. There are two of three possible outcomes, for example, home team or away team win, away team win or draw, or home team win or draw.

Correct Score/Scorecast/Wincast

It can sometimes be very difficult to guess the end result of a Premier League match and the three types of bets all relate to this, often giving generous odds.

When placing a wincast bet all you need to do is decide a goalscorer and if his team will finish the game as winners, losers or on level terms.

The scorecast bet differs in that you select your goalscorer and the correct final result of the game.

Goalscorer

You may look objectively at a match and consider the best marksman of a team, a penalty taker, a free kick taker, or even somebody that has not scored for a while but chips in with a goal every once in a while. In this instance simply choose a player to score during the match.

Over/Under

Choose a Premier League game and select a category bet. This type of bet will have you deciding the number of times an event will occur within a match. You could potentially be betting against the number of free-kicks, penalties or yellow cards. For example, you could bet on there being over or under 3.5 free kicks.

Draw No Bet

Choose your Premier League game and bet on a win or lose outcome. However, if the game ends in a draw you get your money back.

Combo Bets

With a combination of bets lumped into a single match you may well be able to obtain much longer odds. You might consider betting on the number of throw-ins, yellow cards or fee-kicks instead of an individual bet.

Accumulators

You can potentially make small wagers and obtain high returns when undertaking an accumulator bet, however, the risk of not winning will also increase. The bet lumps together a combination of multiple bets into one.

You could decide you want to make a Premier League only accumulator and bet on the end result of a selection of four home teams winning their match each with evens odds. In case you bet €1 on each team separately will win you €8. That said, placing an accumulator means the €1 becomes €2 from the first win and this is placed on the next match. If that wins you have €4 that is placed on the next game and so it goes on. Ultimately, the potential returns are greater than a single bet placed on each team.

Player Proposition Bets

A bet that can be entertaining and keep you interested in a Premier League game right up until the final whistle. Your bet is placed against an individual player. For example, you might want to choose Jared Bowen of West Ham to create one assist, score a penalty or be sent off. These betting markets can be worth exploring, especially if you are familiar with a player and their form.

Next Manager and Player Odds

During the course of a Premier League season there are many events that will have an impact upon the final standings. With Next Manager or Player Odds you will not necessarily be betting on the events of a single game, but rather an event that may happen over a period of time. For example, next season Southampton may have a particularly poor start to the season and their manager is the first to be sacked in the Premier League that season. If you are astute or otherwise lucky, you may have placed a bet on this occurrence. You may also place a bet on the top goalscorer over the season or a player to receive the highest number of red cards. These types of bets can be found in the Outrights section.

In-Play Betting

You will find that odds are updated for certain bets during the progress of a match and this can provide some wonderful betting opportunities. This method of betting can be edge of the seat as you decide on when will be the next throw-in, who will be given the next yellow card or the next team to score a goal.
